Management Controller / Algeria

Job Summary:

The
Management Controller
is responsible for
driving financial and operational performance
within the company's operations in Algeria. This role focuses on
budgetary control, cost analysis, and financial reporting
to support strategic decision-making. The Management Controller ensures
cost optimization, project profitability, and compliance with local and international standards
, while collaborating with operational teams and management to align financial objectives with business strategies.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Budgetary Control & Forecasting

  • Develop and monitor the annual budget
    for operations in Algeria, in collaboration with departments (exploration, production, logistics, etc.).
  • Analyze variances
    between forecasts and actuals and recommend corrective actions.
  • Contribute to financial forecasting and long-term strategic planning
    .

2. Cost Analysis & Performance Evaluation

  • Analyze operational costs
    (production, logistics, maintenance, etc.) to identify optimization opportunities.
  • Evaluate project profitability
    (upstream, midstream, downstream) and recommend improvements.
  • Track key performance indicators (KPIs)
    and prepare dashboards for management.

3. Financial Reporting & Analysis

  • Prepare monthly/quarterly financial reports
    for management and stakeholders, highlighting performance, risks, and opportunities.
  • Analyze financial data
    (costs, margins, cash flow) to support decision-making.
  • Ensure compliance
    with local accounting standards (e.g., Algerian Accounting Standards) and international standards (IFRS).

4. Investment Control (CapEx/OpeX)

  • Monitor and control capital expenditures (CapEx) and operational expenses (OpeX)
    for projects in Algeria.
  • Assess investment profitability
    (ROI, payback period) and recommend adjustments as needed.
  • Collaborate with project teams
    to ensure expenditures align with approved budgets.

5. Compliance & Audit

  • Ensure financial and tax compliance
    with Algerian regulations (e.g., Finance Law, Tax Code).
  • Prepare documentation for internal/external audits
    and support audit processes.
  • Work with legal and tax teams
    to optimize tax strategies and minimize risks.

6. Collaboration with Operational Teams

  • Work closely with operational departments
    (production, logistics, HSE) to understand their needs and align financial resources.
  • Train and advise operational managers
    on budget management and cost optimization.
  • Participate in strategic meetings
    to provide financial insights for operational decisions.

7. Process Improvement

  • Identify and implement improvements
    in management control processes (automation, digital tools).
  • Develop financial analysis tools
    (Excel, Power BI, ERP) to streamline reporting and decision-making.
  • Promote a culture of financial transparency and budgetary accountability
    within the organization.

8. Stakeholder Relations

  • Communicate with senior management, shareholders, and auditors
    to explain financial performance and variances.
  • Collaborate with local financial institutions
    for financing or treasury needs.
  • Represent the finance function
    in cross-functional projects (e.g., acquisitions, partnerships).

Qualifications:

Education:

  • Master's degree in Finance, Accounting, Management Control, or Economics
    (or equivalent).
  • Professional certifications
    (e.g., CMA, CIA, DSCG, or equivalent) are a plus.

Experience:

  • 5 to 10 years of experience in management control
    , preferably in the
    oil & gas, energy, or industrial sectors
    .
  • Experience in Algeria or North Africa
    is a
    strong asset
    .
  • Knowledge of IFRS and Algerian tax regulations
    .

Skills:

  • Proficiency in financial tools
    (Advanced Excel, Power BI, ERP systems like SAP or Oracle).
  • Financial analysis and modeling
    (budgets, forecasts, ROI).
  • Ability to work under pressure
    and meet tight deadlines.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
    .
  • Excellent communication skills
    (written/verbal) to present complex data clearly.

Languages:

  • Fluent in French
    (mandatory).
  • Professional English
    (mandatory for reporting and communication with HQ).
  • Arabic
    is a
    plus
    (for local interactions).
