Wood is recruiting for an HSE Manager to join our team based in Algeria, this position will initially support our service line in Algeria but with a view to supporting other locations within the Africa region. We require a hands-on HSE leader and doer focused on driving Safety Culture, delivering HSE initiatives, ensuring compliance and fostering engagement across our Africa Service Line. Ensure clarity and alignment between WOOD, Joint Venture partners, and Clients through visible leadership, site presence and practical field support. Please note this position is only open to National Algerian personnel. Location: Algeria, hybrid working model, between our offices in Annaba & Arzew, work sites within Algeria, home and international locations. Rotation Work Pattern: TBCRESPONSIBILITIESKey Accountabilities & Responsibilities:Embraces Wood strategic purpose, goals, and objectives and translates these into practical concepts relevant to HSE managementHands-on Delivery and Site engagementActs as a visible and capable HSE practitioner who not only leads but actively delivers and participates in HSE activities, ensuring presence and engagement at the frontline Conduct frequent site visits to build trust, observe behaviors, coach workers and reinforce HSE expectations Supports operations and project teams directly in implementing procedures, risk controls and safety initiatives HSE Management System and Assurance Ensure effective implementation and maintenance for the HSE Management system across all Africa locationsLeads the development, rollout, and continual improvement of procedures ensuring they reflect both legal and Wood corporate requirements Ensure KPIs for Africa contracts are aligned with corporate focus areas and based on HSE Prorisk Monthly HSE performance review, identify trends and drive continuous improvement Develop and maintain a robust HSE assurance Plan that includes regular audits, inspections, management reviews and follow-up actionsMaintain and regularly update ProRisk and risk registers to reflect operational realities and emerging risks across all worksitesLeads or supports incident investigations to ensure proper rootcause analysis, timely corrective actions, and effective sharing of lessons learned Legal and Regulatory Compliance Ensure understanding and mapping of local legal requirements against JV and WOOD procedures, maintain compliance across all jurisdictions Engage with local authorities and external auditors as required to ensure compliance Interface and Collaboration Ensure clear HSE interface document and alignment between WOOD, Joint Ventures and client organisations Promote collaborative relationships to avoid gaps or overlaps in responsibilities and communication Training competence and Development Identifies training needs and where required coordinates HSE related training for site and office personnel Ensure HSE competency frameworks are implemented and maintained across locationsPromotes continuous learning and knowledge sharing through incident reviews, lessons learned and safety campaignsSafety Culture and Behavioural improvement: conduct and facilitates Safety Culture Ladder (SCL) assessments across Africa locations, develop and drive related improvement plans Teaches problem solving, creative thinking and project planning skills to less experienced staffProvides constructive feedback & coachingCreate and maintain a network of subject matter expertsStaffing and development of HSE talent for department and projectsPerformance reviews and salary administrationConducting periodic meetings with department staff, to provide top-down information flow about the companyIdentifies and reports contracts risks and emerging risks, leading proactive actions to mitigate themReceives intermittent supervisionSupport Business Development and Proposals departmentEnsure HSE Management Systems are monitored and in compliancePromote HSE best practices in the office and on projectsDevelopment of HSE project and department safe work plansSupport HSE presentation needs to clients (internal and external)QUALIFICATIONSWhat makes you remarkable?Essential requirements for this role: Formal qualification in occupational health and safety management NEBOSH Diploma or equivalent ISO Lead Auditor Lead Incident Investigation & Root Cause Analysis A formal process safety related qualification would be an advantage Several years' experience in offshore or oil and gas environment.Several years' experience in a HSE roleProven experience in managing multicultural teams in an international setting.Proficiency in French, with additional Arabic language skills being advantageousDesirable:Knowledge of HSE standards and legal requirementsExperience of working in and managing a Quality and HSE Management system environmentSupervisory or direct management experience of more junior staff members is required.Proficient in the use of Microsoft officeExcellent communication skillsExcellent planning and organisational skillsConfident self-starter who can work independentlyKnowledge of internal and external audits and third-party certification audits practicesPersonal Attributes:A hands-on doer, willing to step in, perform and support whenever needed to ensure outcomes are achieved Understands and responds effectively to the level of urgency associated with high risk HSE actions raised from audits, cold eye reviews, incidents or management review meetingsAbility to lead and influence positive Health, Safety and Environmental culture across the Africa service lineStrong sense of ownership and accountability;
