Tax Analyst / Algeria

Job Summary:

The
Tax Analyst
will support the
tax compliance, planning, and reporting
for our operations in Algeria, ensuring adherence to
local tax laws, regulations, and international standards
. This role involves
preparing tax filings, analyzing tax implications of business transactions, and collaborating with finance and legal teams
to optimize tax efficiency while mitigating risks. The Tax Analyst will play a key role in ensuring the company's tax obligations are met accurately and on time, while identifying opportunities for tax savings and process improvements

Key Responsibilities:

1. Tax Compliance & Filings

  • Prepare and file
    corporate tax returns (e.g.,
    Impôt sur les Bénéfices des Sociétés – IBS, TVA, and withholding taxes
    ) in compliance with
    Algerian tax laws and regulations
    .
  • Monitor tax deadlines
    and ensure timely submissions to avoid penalties.
  • Maintain accurate tax records and documentation
    for audits and regulatory reviews.

2. Tax Planning & Optimization

  • Analyze tax implications
    of business operations, transactions, and investments in Algeria.
  • Identify tax-saving opportunities
    (e.g., incentives, exemptions, credits) under Algerian tax laws.
  • Collaborate with finance and legal teams
    to structure transactions in a tax-efficient manner.

3. Transfer Pricing & International Tax

  • Assist in transfer pricing documentation
    and compliance with
    OECD and Algerian transfer pricing rules
    .
  • Support cross-border tax planning
    for transactions involving parent companies or affiliates.
  • Monitor changes in international tax regulations
    that may impact the company's operations.

4. Tax Audits & Dispute Resolution

  • Coordinate with external auditors and tax authorities
    during tax audits or disputes.
  • Prepare responses to tax authority inquiries
    and assist in resolving tax controversies.
  • Maintain relationships with tax advisors and legal counsel
    to address complex tax issues.

5. Indirect Taxes & Customs Duties

  • Ensure compliance with VAT (TVA) and customs duties
    for imports/exports of goods and services.
  • Review invoices and contracts
    to verify correct tax treatment (e.g., VAT, customs duties).
  • Collaborate with logistics and procurement teams
    to optimize customs and indirect tax processes.

6. Tax Reporting & Analysis

  • Prepare tax provisions and reconciliations
    for financial reporting (e.g., IFRS, local GAAP).
  • Analyze tax risks and opportunities
    related to business operations in Algeria.
  • Generate tax reports and dashboards
    for management and stakeholders.

7. Collaboration with Finance & Legal Teams

  • Work closely with accounting teams
    to ensure accurate tax accounting and reporting.
  • Support the finance department
    in tax-related aspects of budgeting and forecasting.
  • Liaise with legal teams
    to assess tax implications of contracts, agreements, and corporate structuring.

8. Process Improvement & Digitalization

  • Automate and streamline tax processes
    (e.g., tax calculations, filings, and documentation).
  • Implement digital tools
    (e.g., tax software, ERP systems) to improve efficiency and accuracy.
  • Stay updated on changes in Algerian tax laws
    and communicate impacts to relevant teams.

9. Stakeholder Communication

  • Communicate tax requirements and updates
    to internal teams (finance, operations, legal).
  • Provide training and guidance
    to staff on tax compliance and best practices.
  • Act as a point of contact
    for external tax advisors and authorities.

Qualifications:

Education:

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Accounting, Finance, Taxation, or Law
    .
  • Professional certifications
    (e.g.,
    CPA, CIA, or Algerian tax qualifications
    ) are a plus.

Experience:

  • 5 to 8 years of experience in tax compliance, planning, or advisory
    , preferably in
    oil & gas, energy, or multinational corporations
    .
  • Experience with Algerian tax laws and regulations
    (e.g.,
    Finance Law, Tax Code, customs duties
    ).
  • Familiarity with international tax principles
    (e.g., OECD guidelines, double taxation treaties).

Skills:

  • Strong knowledge of Algerian tax laws
    (IBS, TVA, withholding taxes, customs duties).
  • Experience with tax software
    (e.g., SAP Tax, Thomson Reuters, or local tax platforms).
  • Analytical and problem-solving skills
    to interpret complex tax regulations.
  • Attention to detail
    and ability to work with tight deadlines.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
    for collaborating with internal and external stakeholders.

Languages:

  • Fluent in French and English
    (mandatory).
  • Arabic
